DIGITAL POWER ENGINEERING

Irkutsk National Research Technical University

Nowadays, digital technologies and their use – i.e. digitalization – is a global phenomenon that impacts society, industry and economy including the power sector. Digitalization here assists to improve the safety, productivity, accessibility and sustainability of energy systems and thus contributes to a better, safer, and more resilient future. The innovative master degree program “Digital power engineering” launched at Irkutsk National Research Technical University therefore fully complies with world trends of power sector development and is entitled to deal with the lack of respective specialists. The program provides the students with profound training on power engineering technologies with a strong focus on smart grids and renewable energy. The graduates will be top-level professionals equipped with all necessary knowledge and skills to enter a professional role in industry and/or academia.

The program has been developed under Erasmus+ ESSENCE project and has taken all the advantages provided thereof:

Advanced curriculum:

by curriculum design, the learning outcome approach was implemented. The program was built around the core curriculum developed by Russian and Vietnamese faculty in close cooperation with European experts and industry representatives. The program is in line with Bologna process and European Qualification Framework requirements.

Experienced teaching staff:

the program key teaching staff was trained at EU partner universities in professional disciplines, curriculum development as well as advanced teaching techniques. The latter are widely used and perfectly fit into the program.

State-of-the-art equipment:

along with existing training and research facilities, EU funding under ESSENCE project enabled the purchase of state-of-the-art laboratory equipment as well as specialized software to ensure the interrupted delivery of classes in online mode under pandemic restrictions.

Approved quality of program implementation:

syllabi as well as teaching materials for core curriculum disciplines have been peer-reviewed by at least two experts (EU and RU/VN). During the piloting stage (2019-2020, 2020-2021 academic years), main program stakeholders (industry representatives as potential employers, teaching staff and students) have been surveyed, weaknesses/shortcoming have been detected and fixed. Finally, special QA procedures for the future have been developed by ESSENCE consortium specialists to ensure the quality of program implementation after the project lifetime.
