ENERGY FOR SMART CITIES

Ural Federal University

The educational program is aimed to develop competencies in designing, operating, controlling and analyzing modern urban smart grids using machine learning.
Graduates will be awarded Master’s qualifications and will be able to carry out professional practice in the fields of planning, researching, developing and implementing new smart solutions for urban grids; they also will be able to lead and manage projects in the field of electrical engineering, energy technologies and electric power systems.
The graduates will be able to work in housing and public utilities, in the offices of chief power engineers at industrial and commercial companies, in construction and installation organizations, in power grid companies, including in production and analytics, equipment operation, production automation and digitalization departments of fuel and energy enterprises, in companies that produce electrical technological installations, primary and secondary equipment for electrical grids.
The professional practice of the graduates can be targeted at high-tech software designed to analyze and solve issues in specific subject areas; equipment for power grids, electrical equipment for consumers of electrical energy; information systems of fuel and energy enterprises, power supply systems for cities and individual consumers of the commercial and industrial sectors, production process automation, low-power generation facilities, operating, inter alia, on the basis of renewable energy sources.
The program features the pronounced practice-oriented learning.
Active learning is given priority and ensures the development of conscious team work and leadership skills along with professional competencies of students.
The best world practice of training electric power and information technology engineers, advanced domestic experience and own developments of Ural Federal University were used to design and implement the educational program.

The program multiplicates the results, obtained within the framework of Erasmus+ KA2 ESSENCE CBHE ESSENCE project in order to meet the demands of the industry for highly-qualified engineering staff able to drive the energy transition and shift the industry towards smart energy systems. All the disciplines are elaborated to train the digital competences and the soft skills, required by the top industrial companies. The structure of the program ensures the balance between engineering and IT, providing learners with in-depth understanding of the technological process and the way how to use the modern digital solutions to enhance its efficiency and security.
