SMART ENERGY SYSTEMS

Tomsk Polytechnic University

The program “Smart energy systems” is aimed at deepening the student’s understanding of design and operating principles of the electrical grid infrastructure and the roles of system operators and regulating authorities in transition to smart energy systems. The program covers the main technologies and concepts relevant to smart energy systems; ensures understanding of the key problems, associated with transaction to smart power industry; provides practical skills of the use of modelling and simulation techniques, analytical methods, critical thinking approach and modern IT-technologies for solving smart energy systems design and control tasks.

The program is modernized within ERASMUS+ ESSENCE project and offers 6 courses from core curriculum:

  • Micro Grids, Smart Grids and Super Grids
  • Energy Management Systems
  • Digital Technologies for Protection and Communication
  • Power System Analysis
  • AI and Machine Learning
  • Economics for Smart Energy Systems

The cutting-edge equipment upgraded within ERASMUS+ ESSENCE project is involved to allow learning of advanced IT technologies used in electrical power industry (phasor measurements, IEC 61850, machine learning and others), as well as to improve efficiency of online and blended learning.

The program is offered to international master students having at least B1 level of English.
