Ural Federal University actively participates dissemination campaign of ESSENCE project

The ESSENCE team of P6 Ural Power Engineering Institute, Automated Electrical Systems department has exceeded harvest targets of project’s Information Sessions. Starting from the middle October till middle December four information Sessions has been carried out:

1. Course developer, financial vice coordinator of P6 Alexandra Khalyasmaa (“Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Smart Energy Systems”) has presented ESSENCE project to the Young Scientific Council of Ural Federal University. The improvement of Power & Energy educational programs as well as spin-off scientific perspectives of the project in terms of establishing international scientific collaboration were mentioned as primary goals of the project. The members of the scientific council, including the Chairman of the Council – Sergey Zvonarev – The member of the Coordination Board for Youth Affairs of the President of Russian Federation, expressed their interest and great support. The Plenary Session of Ural Federal University Young scientific council was carried out on 4th of October 2018.

2. P6 Project coordinator Eroshenko Stanislav and course developer (“Technologies of energy conversion in Smart Energy Systems”), vice coordinator of educational part of the project Samoylenko Vladislav have conducted internal Information Session for Ural Federal University administrative staff from rector’s office, educational process support department, international educational programs division, graduate admissions office, youth science department, inventory and logistics department, UrFU mass-media center, executives of Automated Electrical Systems department. The discussion was focused on primary barriers of newly introduced Master’s course implementation, including the schedules of existing educational programs modification, admission requirements, academic staff advanced training to meet the requirements of European Commission. The internal information Session was carried out on the basis of Automated Electrical Systems department on 19th of November 2018.

3. The information session for academic staff of Ural Federal University was organized separately -within the framework of National Workshop on Small-scaled and distributed generation integration and operation issues, 28th November 2018 , supported by CIGRE Russian National Committee and PJC “System Operator of Unified Power System of Russia”. The presentation was delivered by project coordinator Eroshenko Stanislav and vice coordinator Samoylenko Vladislav. The workshop was broadcasted in YouTube and Abode Connect Webinar. The presentation focused on the content of the core curriculum of the project with special emphasize on “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Smart Energy System” and “Energy conversion technologies in Smart Energy Systems”, developed by P6 academic staff. The concept and achieved results were highly appreciated by the professors of Automated Electrical Systems department as well as by the key strategic industrial partners – Federal Grid Company, System Operator, Prosoft Systems, Scientific Center of United Power System of Russia, etc.

4. The last but not the least project presentation was provided by course developer, financial vice coordinator of P6 Alexandra Khalyasmaa within International Forum “Russian Grids” in Moscow 4-7 December 2018. Alexandra participated special Workshop on Information Technologies and automatization in Power Industry. She finished her presentation with the brief abstract of ESSENCE project and detailed list of disciplines of the core curriculum, triggering informative discussion on up-to-date educational process development and modernization.

The Information Session campaign is initiated to promote the results of the project and to increase the attractiveness of engineering education in the sphere of Power and Electrical Engineering. The project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
