DESIGN AND OPERATION OF POWER SYSTEMS
Ural Federal University
The Master’s program “Power systems’ engineering and operation” is implemented by the department of “Automated electrical systems” of the Electrical engineering faculty of the Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B. N. Yeltsin.
6 professors, Doctors of Engineering, are involved in conducting academic sessions. One professor of the department is state science awarded. To ensure the educational process, qualified teachers of specialized departments of the Ural Federal University, leading specialists of electric power enterprises, researchers of the institutes of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, industry research centers’ and enterprises’ employees are engaged.
The department has modern teaching and research laboratories corresponding to the profiles of master’s programs.
Master’s students carry out research in the following main areas:
- Power consumption assessment, power facilities’ planning, engineering and design, modeling normal and transient modes in EPS.
- Study of the energy security of territories, the safety of the energy system functioning, identification of analytical tools and ways to ensure the quality and reliability of power systems and power supply systems of consumers.
- Calculation of balances and energy losses in power grids, determining the reliability of electricity metering data, developing economically feasible organizational and technical energy saving measures for reducing power losses.
- Design and operation of modern control systems for operating modes of sources, power distribution systems, voltage and reactive power regulation.
- Design of power facilities, taking into account the prospective power consumption of various industries.
The above-mentioned competent training of masters is provided by the solidly experienced department’s staff in relevant scientific areas, the postgraduate and doctoral studies, and the international scientific conferences realization.
The scientific supervisor of the master’s program is Pazderin Andrey Vladimirovich, head of the department of “Automated electrical systems”, professor, Doctor of engineering.
The program has been modernized and implemented under Erasmus+ KA2 ESSENCE CBHE ESSENCE project, supported by the European Union. While maintaining the best heritage of Ural Power Engineering school, the program was enriched with the best practices of European Power Engineering Education, setting the program in line with the European Qualification Framework requirements, ensuring the best quality of the education process and the learning outcomes required by the industry.
