About the Robot

The first domestic Robot for diagnosing electrical equipment was created especially for Iriklinskaya GRES! The mechanical assistant, developed by a team of scientists from the Ural Federal Universitie and Russian Technical Universitie MIREA. It has already passed experimental tests. By the end of the year, the development of intelligent information processing system based on machine learning algorithms will be finished.

The main function of Robot is collecting data automatically without operator participation along human-generated diagnostic routes depending on the required tasks. Robot also has an assistant – a drone for analyzing the condition of chimneys. Both devices have a built-in algorithm for accurate shooting from different angles. Using two cameras – infrared and ultraviolet – Robot collects data without the participation of an operator. Once on the server, they are processed using machine learning algorithms, and power facility personnel receive recommendations for maintenance.

“We are closely connected with the industry, and currently, as a team of the Digital Twin Laboratory in Ural Power Engineering Institute, we are carrying out research and development projects related to high-voltage equipment diagnostics. Our team have practical experience working on outdoor switchgear, and we transfer all our knowledge and skills into our educational master’s programs Artificial Intelligence in the Power Industry Applications and Energy for Smart Cities” – said Head of the laboratory Digital Twin Alexandra Khalyasmaa.
