Another course developed by UrFU master’s teachers for the Artificial Intelligence in Power Industry Apllications and Energy for Smart Cities programs, together with the Professor of the Department of Russian History of the UHI, Doctor of Historical Sciences Konstantin Bugrov, is a course on the history of power industry.


The course History of the Power Industry studies the historical process of the emergence of the modern power system, identifies the key technological and economic stages of this process, and examines the impact of the development of the power industry on related industries. The course develops an understanding of the types of power generation and power transmission systems, the development of dispatch and control systems, and features of the economics of the power industry in national and global contexts. Particular attention is paid to the problems of the impact of the power industry on the environment.

“With this course we emphasized the interdisciplinarity, on the basis of which we created the master’s programs Artificial Intelligence in the Power Industry Applications and Energy for Smart Cities,” says head of the program Alexandra Khalyasmaa. The course is aimed at gaining knowledge in the field of historical development of the energy economy, the ability to analyze its impact on related industries and studying the relationship between the history of power industry and other engineering disciplines, such as Power Supply Systems Design, Optimization Methods in the Power Industry, Optimization in Power Systems, Power Equipment Diagnostics and Power Generation Technologies.
